Training
Training is a key component of the Operate
Safe system. It is a core function that shows how your company
is meeting its legal obligations and is complying with health
& safety and other employment legislation. Training requirements
and available courses have been substantially updated by InfraTrain
NZ (the industry ITO) from August 2007. Click to download
the Training
Guidelines.
As part of the Red (Induction) Card
programme employees are required to obtain the Site Safe Civil
Passport. Training for this usually involves a half day course
administered by Site
Safe New Zealand. The cost is $40 for individuals
whose employers are Site Safe members and $60 for those whose
employers are not members. Further reductions are possible
if your company has an authorised Site Safe trainer.
Costs for the Bronze Card LCP programme
may depend on the courses you select -- some are compulsory,
some elective. Courses are available from approved training
organisations, e.g. New
Zealand Institute of Highway Technology and Tai
Poutini Polytechnic and some may be undertaken on-site.
Check the Training
Guidelines for your course requirements.
Details and costs for the Silver Card and
Gold Card LCP courses will also depend on the courses
selected. The programme is flexible and training for several
of the Unit Standards can be undertaken on-site.
In addition to the training necessary to obtain
the above competencies, all employees are required to undertake
a short on-site Operate Safe Update Course (OSUC) every two
years, based on current areas of concern for H&S and injury
prevention within the wider civil contracting industry. Course
material will be mailed to all registered Operate Safe members.
Full details of training components for all
levels of cardholder may be obtained from InfraTrain, either
by email
or by phoning 04 499 9144.
